A few decades ago, a woman who got married and had the first child after 30 years of age was looked at with astonishment. Such an age in society was already considered mature, and pregnancy and childbirth – ill-considered and even dangerous events.
Today, according to many gynecologists, 35 years is the age when the female body is fully prepared for the first child. Every fifth late child, according to sociological surveys, is the first one in a family. This is due, among other things, to the desire of young women to first obtain education and make a career.
Given the fact that diverse development and education in the modern world cost a lot of money, future mothers seek at first to gain independence and stability, to be able to give the child the best of the future.
A late child is usually long-awaited and planned. Before its birth, parents are already firmly on their feet, well prepared physically and psychologically.
However, some people are skeptical about late pregnancies, first and foremost because they are afraid of the consequences for their own health, as well as the health of the future child. For example, after the late childbirth aging moms might have problems with lactation, that is, with infant feeding: many have too little milk. However, the biggest problem of an aging mother is the natural pregnancy. Also, given the environmental problems, often before to the pregnancy a woman has a number of chronic diseases. In addition, late childbirth often leads to various complications.
So, how do you feel about late children?
The modern world is an era of information and communication technologies, so no one is surprised when parents allow little children to use gadgets, watch cartoons for hours and play games on a smartphone or computer.
When parents are busy, one of the simplest and most widespread ways to occupy a child is a TV set, though different parents have different attitudes to it. In the educational process, the task of adults is to make sure that children, when watching TV, receive only developing, useful and necessary information. For example, programs with a cognitive bias can enrich children with certain knowledge.
The fascinating form of presenting a new material causes an emotional reaction and awakens children’s interest and curiosity. Another benefit is the pedagogic and educational effect of cartoons and films, where good wins over evil, where they are taught love and friendship and explained how to behave in some situations.
Also, the TV can affect the formation of a common cultural field based on, for example, the positive behavior of heroes of fairy tales. For the parents of the child, the advantage, of course, is that they can do their things or just relax while the baby is immersed in the TV.
Yet the TV carries a number of dangers that, in the opinion of some parents, are decisive. In particular, there are films of “non-child” content. Children need neither unnecessary knowledge nor experience of unpleasant emotions. From this type of TV programs, a wrong worldview may be formed.
In addition, on the TV there are always ads, which can clog the child’s mind with unnecessary information. The obvious disadvantage of a child’s health is a negative effect on vision when it comes to long and close contact with the TV screen. Also, some parents associate watching the cartoons and TV shows with idleness. The kid will waste time that can be spent with the benefit.
So, in your opinion – children and TV: for or against?
According to international conventions, every child has the right to protection from physical and psychological violence. Given this, hitting a child means to violate child’s rights.
In fact, a large number of parents use physical punishment. Moreover, it is this method of punishment that some parents consider to be the most “effective”. Though in reality it is merely the most simple and even convenient, since manifestations of anger are inherent to any person while the ability to hold back at the right moment, calmly explaining to the child why they are wrong, to switch their attention, to show understanding and respect – these actions require serious efforts from parents.
In this case, the main motive for selection should be the awareness of parents of all the harmful and negative effects of physical punishment. After all, the child learns to fear parental punishment for their actions and words, rather than the fact of having done something wrong. That is, adults are given the opportunity to control the child’s behavior only now, this instant, but this becomes possible at the price of fear, which in one form or another will continue to haunt the child.
Therefore, being aware of all the flaws of the method of corporal punishment, some parents consciously refuse its application, trying to look for other ways to solve problems, for example, talking with the child and explaining to them what the problem is.
